Being a Youth Mental Health Ambassador carries both personal and collective benefits. On a personal level, I have developed skills such as communication, leadership, and empathy. I have gained confidence in public speaking and community engagement, while also deepening my understanding of mental health. On a community level, this work helps to create supportive environments where young people feel empowered to talk about their struggles without judgement or fear. It is about showing, not just telling, my peers that mental health challenges do not define their worth or their potential.
As a Youth Mental Health Ambassador, this role is more than just a title. It is not about attending meetings or checking boxes; it is about stepping into a role of advocacy, awareness, and leadership at a time when young people all over the world are facing growing mental health challenges.
The reason this role means so much to me is because, growing up, I struggled with mental health challenges myself. There was a point in my life when I did not feel like living. What affected me most was discovering that some of the people I cared about deeply were experiencing the same feelings. I could not imagine a world without them, and that realisation helped me understand that there were people who cared about me in the same way. That understanding gave me the strength to keep going, even while I continued to battle difficult thoughts.
This role also means a great deal to me because it allows me to break stigma, create safe spaces, and encourage open and honest conversations around mental health.
Being part of the You Are Not Alone campaign has further shaped my perspective. To me, the campaign is a constant reminder that even in the darkest moments, someone cares and someone is willing to listen. It has reinforced the importance of connection and the need for young people to feel seen, heard, and supported. As an ambassador, my role is to be a listening ear and to remind my peers that they are not alone, especially in a world that can feel incredibly crowded, yet deeply lonely.
I would like to remind every young person that they deserve to be heard and that they do not have to carry the weight of the world on their own. By sharing resources and creating safe spaces, we can work together to ensure that no one has to face the storms of life alone.
